Palace Arts Center Announces New, Entertaining 2008-09 Arts Season
Grapevine, TX (Aug. 25, 2008) – The changing image of the Palace… Long known as the home of the Grapevine Opry, the historic Palace Arts Center is now bringing more popular singer-songwriters to the stage. Great gigs, spectacular acoustics, charming historic surroundings, and a new and exciting season. The historic Palace Arts Center announces the new 2008-09 season of entertaining and cultural movies, productions and musical performances beginning Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 and runs through Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Palace Theatre located on 300 S. Main St.
The 2008-09 season kicks off with the First Friday Film Series on Sept. 5 with an adventurous Indian Bollywood film, Bunty Aur Babli at 7:30 p.m. Two small town dreamers, Rakesh (Bunty) and Vimmi (Babli), both have goals they want to achieve. When fate doesn’t help them get on track, one thing leads to another and they are pulling fast-capers with ambitious inspector Dashrath hot on their tail. Will he be able to stop the duo?
You can also catch the great classics on the big screen! Some of the features allow you to go back in time and visit the good ol’ days with The Philadelphia Story, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Maltese Falcon and more! Tickets to the First Friday Film Series are $7.50 — but with the Dinner and a Movie promotion, you get $2.50 off your ticket price when you bring a same-day receipt from any Grapevine restaurant!
Don’t miss the Sound of Texas Music Series and Live Variety Shows! You’ll be able to experience wonderful and spirited productions like Paul Slavens and His Texclectic Band, Zack King Band, Deep Blue Something, East Meets West: An Evening of Indian Music & Dance, and much more! These lively and energetic performances will begin on Friday, Oct. 10 with An Evening with Bob Schneider at 7:30 p.m. This Texas-based songwriter and performer has a reputation for being a tireless artist “gigging” hundreds of shows a year while painting on the off days. He’s won Austin’s Songwriter-of-the-Year award multiple times, plus built a rabid national audience based primarily on word of mouth recommendations. Opening for Bob Schneider is Johnny Lloyd Rollins Band, a young pop singer/songwriter from California who has the music world buzzing in the Lone Star State and whose tunes are reminiscent of “The King.”
